Farm Succession Program
If you are a Beginning Farmer, Established Farmer, or Farmland Owner, you are an important part of the future of agriculture in Florida and Florida Farm Finder can help you. The Florida FarmFinder Program was created to help both established farmers and farmland owners keep their land in production and to assist beginning farmers with land access.
Background Information
The average farmer in Florida is 58 years old, which means that within the next few decades a significant portion of farmland will be changing ownership. For many of these farmers, it can be a struggle to find a family member willing and able to continue farming. Often times an unfortunate result is conversion of the family farm to development. Farming families who have spent a generation or more farming and improving their land face the difficult decision of what to do with their land and how to keep it in production. One of the most significant barriers to new and aspiring farmers is access to land. The increase in real estate values over the last 20 years has made it nearly impossible for farmers entering the profession to purchase land at prices that would allow them to farm cost-effectively.
The Florida FarmFinder was made possible by a grant from the USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Program to help address the significant barrier beginning farmers face in finding access to land.
